column inches... jimmegee

Turn on, tune in, cop out. Well you'll definitely get the first two with Jimmegee. As for the copping out bit you may be waiting a long time – as Jimmegee explores the dancefloor and the lives that rotate around it. Old enough to have those 80's originals and yet young enough to appreciate the 21st Century twist those same sounds now take, let Jimmygee take you on a trip. Electronically flavoured of course.
Bringing a little Xtra to the classroom
Monday, 7 September 2009
As the evenings start to get a bit nippy, darkness falls before you’ve had even one after-work drink and the last of the big Prides of the year take place, we have to face up to the fact that the winter is looming yet again. But it ain’t all bad: X Factor and Strictly are back on the telly! I’m actually not quite sure how I managed to survive the miserable autumn-winter evenings before these two beacons of warm fuzzy nonsense appeared. It’s very early days still but my money’s on Ku Bar karaoke MC (bisexual my arse) and drama teacher Danyl Johnson at least making it to the live shows. I’m not sure I actually noticed him singing at the audition but my God he’s cute, isn't he?
My interest in Johnson is not entirely carnal, of course, because we share (or will do, briefly, before he becomes a megastar) the same profession: teaching. Regular readers will know that I'm jacking it all in this September to train as a languages teacher and the one big question I get asked – apart from WTF – is how I’m going to handle the “gay thing”. My answer is generally, if I haven’t worked out how to deal with jibes, questions, prejudice or delight upon revealing my sexuality by now, there’s no hope for me anyway. But it has to be said, teenagers are a force to be reckoned with so I’m very interested to see how other gay teachers deal with it. I guess it’s just one more thing I’ll have to learn about being a teacher on top of all the other challenges, methods and practices. So whether gay or bisexual, Danyl's actually more than a potential pop idol to me - although being a teacher who happens to be a massive X Factor and Youtube star is a very efficient way of eradicating prejudice from pupils and parents alike. Watch this space.
